Mission

The Shell Center for Sustainability's mission is to foster an interdisciplinary program of research, outreach, and education to address actions that can be taken to ensure the sustainable development of communities' living standards, interpreted broadly, to encompass all factors affecting the overall quality of life.

Ms. Lilibeth André

Lilibeth André is the associate director for SCS since 2007. She helps develop and implements the research, outreach and education strategies to achieve the sustainable development Vision of SCS. She participates in various activities on campus and beyond to reach out to students, faculty and staff, as well as in the community, to foster understanding of sustainable development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and partnerships. Before Rice, Lilibeth managed the Houston Bikeway Program; Houston Air Quality Program; the Employee Commute Options Program; Houston Airport System Technical Communications for Planning, Design and Construction; and was a member of the Houston Recycling Division team for the City of Houston where she enjoyed serving the community since 1992. In the City of Phoenix she served in the Public Transit Department, Public Works Department in Contracts Administration, Solid Waste Inspections, and helped launch the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Her background includes marketing and architectural design in Mexico. She has a BBA from LeTourneau University’s executive program where she graduated with honors in 2002, and a decorative design degree from Centro de Estudios Technologicos 55, in Coyoacan, Mexico.

She is a member of the National Council for Science and the Environment’s Council of Environmental Deans and Directors, and is a former member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Transportation Policy Council for the Houston-Galveston region.
