Mission

The Shell Center for Sustainability's mission is to foster an interdisciplinary program of research, outreach, and education to address actions that can be taken to ensure the sustainable development of communities' living standards, interpreted broadly, to encompass all factors affecting the overall quality of life.

Peter Hartley, the George and Cynthia Mitchell Family Chair and Academic Director of the Shell Center for Sustainability, and professor of economics, is quoted in an article reporting on the Global Engineering and Construction Forum at Rice. The problem with politics 


 

October 9, 2008  -  The City of McAllen holds it's first Green Living Festival

The City of McAllen holds it's first Green Living Festival October 9-11, 2008 and invites Lilibeth Andre, the Shell Center for Sustainability Associate Director, to speak during the kick off reception and the opening event. The Green Living Festival was hosted by the McAllen Chamber or Commerce and Shell.  


 

September 24, 2008  -  Associate Director Lilibeth Andre addresses students in the Environmental Science and Engineering Ph.D. Program at University of Texas at El Paso

Shell Center for Sustainability Associate Director Lilibeth Andre, is invited to address students in the Environmental Science and Engineering Ph.D. Program at University of Texas at El Paso. The event was hosted by the UTEP Center for Environmental Resource Management.


 

June 27, 2008  -  7th Annual Tuna Fest: SUS-TUNA-BILITY

The Shell Center for Sustainability joins the Richard E. Smalley Institute of Nanoscale Science and Technology to help sponsor the 7th Annual Tuna Fest: SUS-TUNA-BILITY, a tradition among the Rice Community.
