October 16, 2008. Houston conference on air quality sponsored by the Shell Center for Sustainability at Rice University. Houstons Air Research: What we know, What has worked, and Why it matters.

May 2, 2008. The Shell Center for Sustainability and the Center for the Study of Environment and Society at Rice University will host a visit of students participating in the International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, & Environment Project Olympiad.

May 1, 2008. The 2009 call for faculty research projects has been released by the Shell Center for Sustainability (SCS) at Rice University. Faculty are invited to submit interdisciplinary research project proposals for funding in the areas of Energy, Air Quality, Water Quality, Biodiversity-forestry, Urban Sustainability, and Climate Change. Broad collaboration is invited. Proposals are due September 2, 2008. For more information, contact SCS

March 28, 2008. The Shell Center for Sustainability (SCS) releases a call for faculty submittals on sustainability course initiatives. Proposals are due May 5, 2008. Contact SCS for more information.

February 18, 2008. The Shell Center for Sustainability releases its 2007 Annual Report .

February 9, 2008. Registrations are open for the Beyond the Science: The Economics and Politics of Responding to Climate Change conference to be held at James A. Baker III Hall, at Rice University, on Saturday, February 9, 2008. Read more and register here.

January 31, 2008. The Center for the Study of Environment and Society hosts a CO2 Forum and Sustainability Fair whith participation from the Shell Center for Sustainability and other organizations. Forum guest speakers include Rice University President, David Leebron; Houston Mayor Bill White; and Shell Oil Company President, John Hofmeister. Read more.   

January 7, 2008. A new project on Nanotechnology monitoring is funded by the Shell Center for Sustainability. Read more about this research.

November 15, 2007. The Shell Center for Sustainability announces the selection of new research projects for sustainable development in the areas of biofuels impact, sustainability of power generation, production and deployment of biodiesel, and carbon sequestration. The projects bring together experts across various disciplines at Rice University. Read more.

October 25, 2007. Rice University funds the International Visiting Fellows Program in Energy, the Environment, and Sustainability to bring experienced researchers to Houston to develop workable solutions to the world's energy and environmental challenges. The Shell Center for Sustainability and the School of Social Sciences join the Energy and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI), the George R. Brown School of Engineering, Weiss School of Natural Sciences, Rice Energy Forum, and the China-U.S. Center for Environmental Remediation and Sustainable Development to announce the call for applications.     

October 12, 2007. The Shell Center for Sustainability joins the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University in support of the upcoming Spring 2008 conference, Beyond the Science: The Economics and Politics of Climate Change. Read more at Baker Institute.

September 12, 2007. A Request for Faculty Proposals is announced. Proposals are for research on sustainable development in the areas of energy, air quality, water quality, biodiversity, urban sustainability, and climate change. Read more at Research.

August 1, 2007. The Shell Center for Sustainability at Rice University appoints a new Associate Director and Academic Director to lead the Center. Lilibeth Andre and Dr. Peter Hartley team up to lead the Center created in partnership with Rice and Shell to further sustainable development. Read more at About Us.
